Two Guys, a Metal Detector, and a 28-Year-Old Mystery

In today’s Simple Joe, I’m talking about one of those stories that makes you wonder how something could possibly find its way home after nearly three decades. Two metal-detecting enthusiasts at Great Sacandaga Lake in New York discovered a high school class ring that had been lost for 28 years, then went out of their way to track down the owner and return it. That leads me down a few shiny-object roads about metal detecting, why these guys might make a pretty great reality show, things I’ve lost over the years, and whether I’d even care about an old class ring until somebody suddenly told me they found it. Along the way, we celebrate birthdays including Hank Williams, John Ritter, Jim Cornette, Patrick Mahomes, and more, look back at a few moments in history, and somehow manage to work free queso, country music, apple dumplings, pawpaws, and professional house cleaners into the same episode. I’m also getting ready to head to Florida for a couple of weeks, and tomorrow’s Friday Top 10 is inspired by the trip: the Top 10 Things to Do in Florida That Aren’t Disney.
